Bi-CAN Backyard Bee Blitz
Online/Virtual
Public Welcome Family Friendly Free Event
Calling all nature lovers in Scott and Muscatine Counties in Iowa, or Rock Island, Henry, and Mercer Counties in Illinois!
All are invited to get outside and snap pictures of any creature seen visiting a flower on July 28-30th. The Backyard Bee Blitz is similar to a BioBlitz, an activity in which all of the biodiversity in a specific area is examined, to provide a snapshot in time of the flora and fauna present. During the Backyard Bee Blitz, we seek to know what species of bees and other insects are seen visiting flowers, and where they are, on this specific weekend.
*Don't worry if you can't identify an insect on your own! Simply upload your photo, and the ID work can be done for you through iNaturalist.
Prizes will be given to the person who makes the FIRST observation in the project, and to the person who makes the MOST observations in the project.
To Participate:
1. Download the iNaturalist App and join the '2023 Bi-CAN Backyard Bee Blitz' project.
2. Go outside anytime on July 28, 29, or 30 and take photos of any creature seen visiting a flower.
3. Upload the photos to iNaturalist. You don't need to upload them immediately; just be sure to select the correct date when uploading. They will automatically be counted as part of the Backyard Bee Blitz!
