Sandbox Conversion = Native Plants

Perhaps you have similar areas on your property that you have been ‘fixin’ to modify or remove one of these days.  My daughter kept looking at the good old sandbox I built for my grandchildren about 10 years ago. They are hitting the teen years now and the old sandbox sadly can’t compete with an iPad in its current state. The space has conveniently been ignored as it is not in the way.

One day, she mentioned that we could use it to start native plants. Bada bing! The picture below was taken last month.  More germination trays have been added.  To deter our furry pals from digging through the trays, netting has been added.  I suspect I can get my grandchildren interested once the germinations starts! Maybe you have a similar space?
